DJ Saliva
- Contact: mauroeventura@gmail.com
DJ Saliva always bring some heat. Mauro is a founding member of Porto-based queer party "Arena Spa Superiora" and an intermedia artist. The Portugal-born, Berlin-based Herrensauna resident keeps things naughty with a hedonistic psychedelia. Whether in their sets or productions, Saliva's sound brings a slippery and slithery atmosphere aiming for a hybrid fusion of old school & hi-tech new school sounds, from up-tempo electro & big breaks to trippy, sonic techno and unexpected tribal materials. A multi-faceted artist, Mauro is also a sculptor, painter, performer and a visual developer who curates the visual identity and artworks for Herrensauna, managing their own music label.

In 2018, SPFDJ was inducted into the crew of residents at Herrensauna, the notorious monthly rave that has empowered and transformed Berlin’s queer scene in the past few years. Sharing a lineup with residents, this fertile and (not quite) fucks-free environment has seen SPFDJs sets become increasingly dynamic and uncompromisingly distinctive, a key tool in tipping the basement of Tresor over into trademark madness, as captured in an inspiring, increasingly iconic Boiler Room performance.

Cofounder and resident at Herrensauna, Berlin MCMLXXXV is perhaps best known as a founding member of Herrensauna - the beloved queer party originating in Berlin - but the influence of his curational work resonates much further afield, encompassing the spheres of music, art and fashion with a sincere appreciation of subcultural movements and their associated aesthetics. His DJ sets celebrate a countercultural approach to electronic music, drawing upon an intense, seductive fusion of charged rhythmic tension and obscure sonic imagery. With a comprehensive knowledge of genres ranging from EBM and electro to hard trance and industrial, his ability to weave seemingly disparate references together is the result of years spent dedicated to the underground, in all its grit and glamour. Herrensauna reflected the need for a queer-led techno event in a city where underground and mainstream sit tensely alongside each other, and gentrification threatens the vast network of cultural spaces the city calls its own. Despite its name - a tongue-in-cheek reference to the clandestine culture of gay men’s saunas - it is the sense of community at the parties, which have now travelled the globe, that lend to their ever growing influence across the queer diaspora. Employing this approach in his own work, MCMLXXXV’s sets explore the darker end of the spectrum with an open mind, responding to crowds with an instinctive understanding of the nuances between genres, and an innate ability to work any dancefloor.

Initially inspired by hardcore punk and death metal in his younger years, the “CEM “ real name Cem Dukkha “turned to techno when he tapped into the underground scene at the age of 18, and found that the heavy and repetitive sounds he was influenced by could be found in techno, too. Moving to Berlin to fortify his interests and ambitions as a musician, Herrensauna formed with a collective of ravers he met at techno parties in Vienna – sees the producer manifest his own sex positive vision in club form. Taking ideas from the raves in the 90s, Herrensauna stages lesser-known selectors in small basements, and has tapped the likes of Matrixxman, Cadency and more for its accompanying label.
